Location and Attractions

Brooklyn College, the third-oldest college in the City University of New York system, is located in a residential area of Brooklyn on a twenty-six-acre, landscaped campus that was voted by the Princeton Review as the country's most beautiful in 2003. The many cultures of Brooklyn contribute to the wide ethnic diversity of the College and the neighborhoods around it. Although Manhattan's legendary attractions are within easy access by public transportation, many Brooklyn residents center their cultural and social activities in Brooklyn because of its enormous choice of venues. Cultural resources nearby include the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park, and an extensive public library system. Within a short distance of the campus are fishing piers on the Atlantic Ocean, beaches, public golf courses, the New York Aquarium at Coney Island, and the home of a minor league baseball team whose games are less expensive and even more fun than those in the major leagues. Brooklyn has some of New York’s best new restaurants as well as long-established eateries serving inexpensive ethnic food from just about every part of the globe.
