Black Solidarity Day, Haitian Flag Day, Hands Across the Campus, Human Rights Week, and Women's Her-Story Month are just some of the yearly events held on Brooklyn College campus and organized by and for students under the direction of the College's Division of Student Affairs.
Student participation is also encouraged in a wide range of activities, from student government to membership in one of our many student organizations that represent a broad spectrum of academic and vocational interests.
The division not only coordinates and oversees student affairs activities and events such as these, but also promotes educational, cultural, social, recreational, and health programs geared to enriching the educational experience of Brooklyn College students both in and out of the classroom.
These programs encourage self-directed activity, affording maximum opportunity for self-realization and for growth in group effectiveness and social awareness. Many of our students, for example, pursue volunteer activities through SERVA (Students Engaged in Responsible Volunteer Action), a registry of services and a source of information on volunteer opportunities both on and off campus. Each spring, the division also helps organize an annual Student Life Conference, whose goal is to foster and encourage volunteerism and social responsibility among both students and the larger campus community.
Events are listed on the College's calendar. Make sure to visit the calendar often to see what's happening on the campus.
