Prioritization of the college’s capital construction and facilities projects flows from the Facilities Master Plan. This long-range plan is developed by considering the facilities infrastructure and space utilization needs of the academic programs and support services of Brooklyn College. As a result of the previous Facilities Master Plan, the college has undertaken several large-scale capital projects, including the renovation of the library, the completion of the new West Quad Center, the design completion for the Leonard and Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts, and initial planning for the Roosevelt Science Complex as well as a number of smaller renovation projects.
We are updating the Facilities Master Plan to reflect capital construction priorities and facilities upgrades for the next decade. We have four goals:
- revise the roadmap for new major capital projects,
- develop recommendations on how best to assign spaces vacated in the relocation to the West Quad Center,
- consider appropriate space adjacencies for greater institutional effectiveness, and
- provide temporary research space in Ingersoll Hall Extension while the Roosevelt Science project is under way.
The college has engaged Pfeiffer Partners Architects to help with the facilities master planning process. They will work with our Facilities Master Planning Working Committee to agree on the schedule and overall goals of the process.
An initial Town Hall Meeting was held in December 2009, and several additional town hall meetings are scheduled for college community discussions. The college will complete the new Facilities Master Plan and submit it to CUNY for review and approval by September 2010.
Student, faculty, staff and alumni input is critical to the success of our Facilities Master Planning effort. Because it’s not possible to individually interview all members of our campus community, the architects/planners have developed a Comment Box to provide you with a vehicle for sharing your ideas, concerns and suggestions throughout the course of the Facilities Master Planning process. Please take a moment to review their questions and provide any feedback you may have.
