The Brooklyn College Conservatory Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Professor Douglas Hedwig, added great flair to the New Year's Day Inauguration Ceremony of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at City Hall.
The Brass Ensemble, consisting of trumpets, French horns, trombones, an euphoniums, and a tuba, was led by Douglas F. Hedwig, professor of trumpet and brass instrument studies and the conductor of the college's Brass Ensemble since 1985. Among the music performed by the five graduate students and ten undergraduates who make up the Ensemble was the premiere of "Promenade for a Great City," a composition Hedwig wrote especially for the inauguration.
The Brass Ensemble previously played for the mayor on Jan. 15, 2009, when he delivered his State of the City address from the stage of Whitman Hall. The ensemble has also played in Switzerland, Germany, England and at parks concerts throughout the city.
