I have taught modern European history at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center since 2002. I earned my M.A. and Ph.D. in modern European history at Ohio University, and have taught at that institution, Ohio State University, and Yale University. I received my B.A. in International Studies from Miami University in 1989. Following service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines, I worked on the Washington, D.C. staff of Representative John Kasich and then for the Atlantic Council of the United States, a non-profit foreign policy institution.
At Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center, I teach courses in modern European and German history, Nazi Germany, terror and terrorism in modern Europe, and historical methodology. Education: DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY, OHIO UNIVERSITY - 2000 (HISTORY) Areas of Expertise: I am a scholar of modern German history, with an interest in the Nazi era and the postwar decades. My first book, The Heidelberg Myth: The Nazification and Denazification of a Germany University (Harvard, 2003), examined the responses of professors at one prominent university to National Socialism and how they recalled the Nazi past after 1945. I am currently writing a book about German Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany who served in the U.S. Army during and after World War II.
