My tattoo is a passage of German philosophy - in the original German. It is the opening section, "Fuer Marcel Proust" ("for Marcel Proust"), of Theodor Adorno's philosophical journal, Minima Moralia. It's my favorite book. I've put so much of my life into reading and writing fiction that it's a pleasant change to read concentrated intellectual matter. I've written some 170 screenplays, teleplays and stage plays - my latest is running off-Broadway as I write this - and 16 novels, so far. I'm fortunate to spend so much of my year with Brooklyn College students, the most enjoyable company of any student body I've encountered, in a teaching career that spans seven universities in the US and my native UK. For further details take a look at my wikipedia site, very kindly and efficiently put together by a Brooklyn College graduate.
