Education: DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY, UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO - 2007 (Middle East History) M.A., University of Chicago - 1999 (Middle East History) B.A., University of Haifa - 1995 (Middle East History) Areas of Expertise: I work on questions dealing with Palestinian and Israeli history during the late Ottoman period, Palestinian-Israeli conflict, modern Turkey, and late Ottoman history. I also have interests in construction of nationalism, state-building, and historical narratives. Conferences, Seminars and Symposiums Participated in a conference on Modern Turkey, sponsored by NYMAS, and held at CUNY graduate center. I presented two lectures: one on late Ottoman history and the other entitled :Civil Society in Turkey. Lastly, I took part in a round table discussion on US-Turkey relations; March 2008. (Conferences, Seminars and Symposiums: Conference Presentation) 2007 Other Professional Activities I organized a 4-day seminar in Istanbul, Turkey. This was for Carleton College's Middle East Mosaics Program and was entitled "Beneath the Surface: Learning About the Other in Istanbul." In addition to presenting two lectures on Modern Turkey, I organized meetings with different NGOs which provided the students to explore questions of "otherness," in Turkey; February 2008, Istanbul, Turkey. 2008 |
