Residency Information and Procedures
Incoming first year, new transfers and new graduate students
Incoming first year, new transfers and new graduate students will be notified in the admissions acceptance packet if they need to establish NYS residency. Students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents or eligible visa holders such as A-1, A-2, A-3, E-1, E-2, G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, G-5, H-1, H-4, I, K, L, N, R, S, T, U, V may establish residency. Students granted asylum or refugee or parole status may also establish residency. Students applying for in-state tuition must have resided in NYS, with the intent to stay, for at least 1 year prior to the first day of class for the semester in which they are applying for a determination. Students must submit documentation along with the residency form.

Out-of-status (undocumented) students
Out-of-status (undocumented) students who attended a NYS High School for at least two years and graduated, or obtained a NYS GED diploma, may apply for in-state tuition if they apply to CUNY within 5 years of receiving their diploma.
Continuing students
Continuing students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents or eligible visa holders such as A-1, A-2, A-3, E-1, E-2, G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, G-5, H-1, H-4, I, K, L, N, R, S, T, U, V may establish residency. Students granted asylum or refugee or parole may also establish residency.
