SUMMARY:LGBTQIA+ Book Club: "Lonely Crowds\," by Stephanie Wambugu
DESCRIPTION:The LGBTQIA+ Book Club meets once a month throughout the academic semester. It provides a thoughtful and engaging environment where participants can delve into nuanced discussions\, reflect on complex themes\, and connect with fellow students\, staff\, and faculty. Our selections span various genres and topics. \nFor November\, our book is Lonely Crowds\, by Stephanie Wambugu. This debut novel traces the decades-long friendship between Ruth and Maria\, two outsiders who escape difficult childhoods and enter New York City’s early-1990s art world. As their lives diverge and ambition strains their bond\, the novel explores identity\, intimacy\, and class. \nStop by the LGBTQ+ Center to receive your free copy of November’s book and to join the Book Club.

SUMMARY:The Power of Intercultural Dialogue: Octavio Paz Between Mexico and India
DESCRIPTION:In The Tree Within: Octavio Paz’s Years in India\, Indranil Chakravarty explains how the Mexican Nobel Laureate poet and diplomat Octavio Paz became a cultural bridge between two parts of the Global South that are separated by geography\, language\, culture\, and history. As Mexico’s ambassador to India in the 1960s\, Paz immersed himself in the country’s contemplative traditions\, travelled widely\, forged deep friendships with some of India’s finest minds\, and produced several of his most inspired poetry and essays. While he gave poetic form to several Indian philosophical concepts and became a mentor to a generation of avant garde painters\, he opened pathways through which Latin American writers and artists could draw inspiration from India.

SUMMARY:Guest Recital: New Music Ensemble-in-Residence–Loadbang
DESCRIPTION:New York City-based new music chamber group loadbang is building a new kind of music for mixed ensemble of trumpet\, trombone\, bass clarinet\, and baritone voice. Since their founding in 2008\, they have been praised as ‘cultivated’ by The New Yorker\, ‘an extra-cool new music group’ and ‘exhilarating’ by the Baltimore Sun\, ‘inventive’ by the New York Times and called a ‘formidable new-music force’ by TimeOutNY. Creating ‘a sonic world unlike any other’ (The Boston Musical Intelligencer)\, their unique lung-powered instrumentation has provoked diverse responses from composers\, resulting in a repertoire comprising an inclusive picture of composition today. \nProgram\n“A Garden Adorned”:\nAlex Mincek\, Number May Be Defined\nChaya Czernowin\, IRRATIONAL\nNiloufar Nourbakhsh\, Bag of Bones\nChristina George\, >>liminal songs>>\nOscar Bettison\, I am a garden adorned \n$5
