DESCRIPTION:In connection with the current exhibition of Keith Haring prints\, this special event is a cozy celebration of art and children’s literature. Associate Professor of English Matthew Burgess will read from his illustrated biography\, Drawing on Walls: A Story of Keith Haring\, followed by a conversation with Provost April Bedford about the particular magic of picture books. Milk and cookies will be served\, and participants are invited to bring a favorite children’s book to share. Co-sponsored by the Art Department\, English Department\, the Office of the Provost\, the Office of Student Affairs\, and the School of Visual\, Media and Performing Arts.

DESCRIPTION:The English Department’s first Career Conversation of the year will feature three professionals who have built meaningful careers after majoring in English: Sue Landers (director of digital marketing and content strategy\, Brooklyn College) and alums Ayanni Cooper (program officer\, MLA) and Rava Rabb (program officer\, Outrider Foundation). \nWe will hear about how their career paths evolved\, what their day-to-day work is like\, and how the reading\, writing\, and critical thinking skills they developed as English majors helped them land and shape meaningful roles in academic programming\, nonprofit work\, and communication strategy.
