East Quad Renovation
BUILDING A SAFER, GREENER, AND MORE RESILIENT CAMPUS
Brooklyn College is transforming the East Quad with a major renovation designed to ensure our campus remains safe, sustainable, and ready for the decades ahead.
As the East Quad undergoes its long-awaited renovation, we’re committed to ensuring campus life remains vibrant and uninterrupted. Outdoor events traditionally held on the East Quad will be relocated to the West Quad or inside The Student Center (SUBO), providing welcoming spaces for gatherings without disruption. Campus tours for prospective students and alumni will follow an updated route that highlights the best of Brooklyn College while avoiding construction areas. While some construction noise is unavoidable, work will be carefully scheduled to minimize impact on classes and academic activities. To prioritize safety and accessibility, revised evacuation plans and updates will be shared well in advance, ensuring every member of our community can navigate campus with confidence during this transition.
Why This Project Matters
The East Quad requires a full renovation to address critical infrastructure and environmental concerns. Key improvements include:
- Removing hazardous trees and replacing them with disease-resistant plantings.
- Repairing and upgrading underground infrastructure, including sewer and stormwater systems.
- Modernizing campus electrics for lighting and connecting to the emergency backup generator.
- Preparing the campus for future sustainability and resilience.
