Limitless Discovery
Advancing STEM Research and Careers
Throughout the years, Brooklyn College has built an impressive depth and breadth of expertise in the health sciences. And in the wake of the worst public health crisis in modern history, the need for better health practices and new solutions is greater than ever. That’s where our faculty, researchers, and students get to work. Together, we will increase our prowess in health research, education, and community outreach. With your support, we can give our students new resources, better serve our Brooklyn community’s needs, and combat the health challenges that face us all.
Funding Priorities
RENOVATING SCIENCE LABORATORIES
Enabling our students to do their work in state-of-the-art facilities.
RECRUITING AND RETAINING FACULTY
Attracting professors who are experts in the health sciences.
EXPANDING OUR PARTNERSHIPS
Collaborating with Memorial Sloan Kettering and other leading hospitals.
BUILDING STRONGER, HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES
Brooklyn College has a long-standing reputation for excellence in cancer research and for educational opportunities for students seeking careers in oncology. And now, with the recently opened Brooklyn College Cancer Center, we’re reaching out to our surrounding communities to help address disparities in cancer studies, treatment, and education. Located in one of the most diverse places in the nation, the Brooklyn College Cancer Center is committed to enhancing the lives of patients affected by cancer, with a special focus on underserved Brooklyn residents, while focusing on three main areas: research, education, and community service.
Key Initiatives
Creating new opportunities in the health sciences
More than a quarter of our students are majoring in health-related fields. And our faculty are among the nation’s leading experts in fields such as chemistry, biology, and bioinformatics. Through this campaign, we will retain these expert educators and researchers while recruiting additional faculty members to offer our students even more.
Renewing our investment in our local communities
Health crises can have a devastating effect in the dense population of New York, and those from traditionally underserved populations face the highest risk. We are renewing our commitment to the health and safety of all who live in our communities as we prepare the next generation of health care workers and researchers.
Increasing our influence and impact
Through Boundless Brooklyn, we will expand our efforts to create educational opportunities for students seeking careers in health care, addressing the growing need for health care professionals in communities in Brooklyn and beyond.
Making new partnerships in the fight against cancer
By expanding our collaborations with institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Center, and Maimonides Cancer Center, along with community-focused educational and awareness events, we will work to counter the rising incidence of cancer in Brooklyn.
Expanding the pool of perinatal health care professionals
By offering a unique, online Perinatal Mental Health Advanced Certificate, Brooklyn College will expand access to early intervention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders that will help reduce New York City’s high rate of maternal morbidity.
No one should have to look outside of Brooklyn for resources that support stronger, healthier communities.
