The Conservatory of Music’s 2014 Concert Competition was held on Friday, Feb. 7, in Whitman Theater. Professor George Rothman recounted the lively event:

Dear Conservatory Colleagues, Students and Friends,

I am delighted to report that we had a robust Concerto Competition yesterday with seven finalists. All competed like champions, which made for an extremely close competition. Our distinguished panel of judges, Conservatory Chair, Professor Bruce MacIntyre, Professor Alexie Lewis, and String Studio coach Igor Pikayzen deliberated and awarded Brian Lam the top prize of this year’s competition for his performance of the Chopin E minor Piano Concerto. Brian will performed the complete concerto with the Conservatory Orchestra on Tuesday, April 1, in Whitman Theater at 7:30 p.m.  I hope you’ll join me in thanking our judges and offer a special thanks to our wonderful finalists below for all their hard work preparing for this year’s competition. Their efforts clearly demonstrated the great talent we are very proud to have as part of Brooklyn College’s Conservatory of Music.

  • Sunhwa Hong and Kyungmin Kim, Duo Pianists
  • Adam von Housen, Violin
