Graduate Transfer Credit

Entering graduate students may request to transfer in graduate credits from another college or university attended before being accepted to Brooklyn College. Students must apply for transfer credits within their first academic year.

  • If you are a new graduate student, you may request to transfer graduate credits from another college or university that you attended prior to being accepted to Brooklyn College. You must apply for transfer credits within your first academic year. Note: Undergraduate courses cannot be counted toward the graduate degree or credit count.
  • You may only transfer courses that have not been applied to another degree or graduate certificate.
  • Transfer credits are accepted only from accredited colleges and universities.
  • Graduate courses must have been completed within five years prior to admission to Brooklyn College.
  • Transfer credits are accepted up to a maximum of 40% of the total credits required for the degree program.
  • Grades must be a B or better. (Courses taken pass/fail will not be accepted).

To request transfer credits, complete the Graduate Transfer Credit Request form (PDF), attach an official transcript with a photocopy of the course description from the catalog/bulletin, and submit the package to your adviser for approval.

If you have taken a course at another institution while attending Brooklyn College as a graduate degree student, do not file the Graduate Transfer Credit Request form. If you did not get permission from your graduate deputy prior to enrolling for the course at another institution, you must file a petition with  the Committee on Graduate Admissions and Standards (CGAS) for a retro permit. You can begin the process by visiting the Center for Academic Advisement and Student Success in 3215 Boylan Hall to request an appointment with the graduate adviser.
