Brooklyn College is pleased to announce the appointment of Eduardo Andres Alfonso as curator of The Art Gallery at Brooklyn College, bringing to the role a dynamic record of exhibition-making, interdisciplinary scholarship, and a deep commitment to expanding public engagement with contemporary art.
An accomplished curator and architect, Alfonso joins Brooklyn College from The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut, where he served as associate curator. Prior to that, he was associate curator-at-large at The Shed in New York, contributing to major projects including The Yanomami Struggle and the Open Call 2023 Visual Arts Group Show, for which he coordinated the production of new work by eleven artists. His curatorial practice centers on situating art and exhibition histories within broader social, economic, and political contexts while creating innovative and accessible experiences for audiences.
Alfonso earned a Master of Arts in Curatorial Studies from Bard College’s Center for Curatorial Studies, where he curated exhibitions including Frame (Traced), FIGURE DOOR PASSAGE, and Ñande Róga. He has also held prestigious appointments as curator-in-residence at EMPAC in Troy, New York, where he co-curated Conspiracy Influencer, and as a Curatorial Fellow at Harvard University’s Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts.
In addition to his curatorial achievements, Alfonso has an extensive academic background. He previously taught as an adjunct lecturer at The Spitzer School of Architecture at The City College of New York and as a visiting assistant tutor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union.
Alfonso will lead The Art Gallery at Brooklyn College’s exhibition program, working with artists, students, faculty, and the broader community to present thought-provoking exhibitions and foster new opportunities for dialogue, learning, and creative exploration. His appointment reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to championing innovative artistic voices and creating meaningful cultural experiences on campus and beyond.
