Brooklyn College Professor of English Moustafa Bayoumi has been selected for a highly competitive fellowship at Stanford University’s Humanities Center for the 2026 academic year.
As part of the fellowship, Bayoumi will spend the year at Stanford advancing work on his latest book project while collaborating with a community of leading scholars from around the world. The fellowship recognizes his significant contributions to the humanities and his widely respected scholarship on race, immigration, culture, media, and contemporary social issues.
In addition to his work as a scholar and educator, Bayoumi is an opinion columnist for The Guardian. His writing frequently explores issues of identity, civil liberties, immigration, and the social and political dynamics that shape contemporary life. He is the author of the acclaimed How Does It Feel to Be a Problem?: Being Young and Arab in America and was recently honored with the 2025 Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association Award for Excellence in Opinion and Analysis.
