Brooklyn, June 5, 2015 – The annual Gi60: International One-Minute Play Festival, hosted by Brooklyn College’s Department of Theater and Leeds University in the United Kingdom, will celebrate its 11th year from June 11 – June 13, 2015 by offering 150 original plays in three international locations, including Brooklyn College, Leeds University in the U.K., and the Hagley Theatre School in Christchurch, New Zealand. Gi60 is the world’s only international one-minute play festival. Created in 2003 by Screaming Media Productions’ Artistic Director Steve Ansell, Gi60 has been performed annually in the UK and New York since 2005. The one-minute plays will be brought to life by an ensemble cast of theater students, alumni, and professional guest artists. Each of the three locations will host 50 original plays. You can also view over 350 one-minute plays on the Gi60 YouTube Channel or join the festival’s Facebook page. “Gi60 2015 Live US Edition celebrates new and diverse writing, featuring comedies, dramas, and absurd plays from four continents, and from seventeen states in the USA,” said Theater Department Professor Rose Burnett Bonczek, the festival’s director in Brooklyn. Having created a global ensemble of writers, actors, directors, designers and filmmakers from around the world, according to Burnett Bonczek, and produced well over 1000 plays with her colleagues in the U.K., Gi60 is the world’s biggest little theater festival. “The core of Gi60, however, is the live experience of performing and sharing these 50 plays, touching lives and changing minds with a 60 second view into someone’s story,” she added. From an annual submission pool of nearly 1,000 plays, this year’s selection includes authors from Australia to Italy to Los Angeles to Boston. All 150 plays will be filmed and posted in early September on the Gi60 YouTube channel, and linked through the festival’s blog. Brooklyn College’s performances will be held in the New Workshop Theater, accessible from the last stop of the #2 and 5 trains at Flatbush Avenue/Brooklyn College. Gi60 U.S. 2015 features current Brooklyn College theater students Sofiya Cheyenns, Rebecca Guskin, Katherine Art-Decoux, Catleen Kelly, Julie Orkis, Shomari Pinnock, Conor Sullivan, Fito Alvarado, and Tina Wong Lu, as well as returning alumni, faculty members, and guest artists. Admission is $15 regular, $12 for seniors and $10 for students with ID. All proceeds will benefit the Gi60 U.S./UK Collaboration Award, a scholarship given to theater students who embody the spirit of collaboration. For reservations, call 718.951.4500.
