Aquatic Research and Environmental Assessment Center (AREAC)

AREAC is a 15,000-square-foot facility dedicated to basic and applied studies of aquatic organisms and the environments they inhabit. The saltwater area (10,000 square feet) is a recirculating seawater system, allowing control of temperature and salinity, and photoperiod. There is also a separate, 3,000-square-foot lab for growing and experimentation of freshwater organisms. A 2,000-square-foot adjacent lab is equipped for various analyses, including morphology, immunochemistry, molecular biology, biochemical assays, and water quality.
