CUNY Policy Reminders

Brooklyn College is committed to promoting equal opportunity in its educational programs and activities, and employment. As part of one of the most diverse universities in the country and among the nation’s greatest engines of social mobility, we are uniquely positioned to be a model of an inclusive educational institution, committed to supporting our diverse community in an environment of mutual respect. We are proud of the culture of civility and uphold our values as a community that maintains civil discourse and respect for all individuals in and outside of our classrooms.

We are committed to ensuring that we maintain a safe and respectful environment for all and foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages both the free exchange of ideas and an environment where all students can thrive. We will not be tolerant of anyone who uses discrimination, bigotry, intimidation, harassment, retaliation or any form of hate action against those with opposing views and convictions.

Brooklyn College maintains compliance with the CUNY policies below.

Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination

Students, faculty, and staff may contact Danielle Haynes, Chief Diversity Officer, to discuss any concerns or issues related to discrimination experienced in the classroom or the workplace. Anyone who believes they have been a victim of harassment, discrimination or retaliation may report the matter via the University-wide Discrimination and Retaliation Reporting Portal.

Policy on Sexual Misconduct

Students, faculty, and staff may contact Michelle Mendez, Title IX Coordinator or Danielle Haynes, Chief Diversity Officer.

For emergencies or any matters where safety or security is a concern, please contact Public Safety immediately at 718.951.5511.

The policy (PDF) lists the faculty and staff in our community who are designated “responsible employees” (or mandated reporters) as well as confidential resources for students and employees, in addition to the Student Bill of Rights.
