Book Exhibit: Make Asian American History Visible

April 24, 2023 - May 26, 2023

Asian American history has been marginalized and obliterated throughout American history, and that erasure has resulted in a lack of understanding and recognition of the significant contributions made by Asian Americans.

From the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, Asian Americans have faced systemic discrimination and prejudice. Their stories have been left out of history textbooks, museums, and popular culture, perpetuating the myth that they are a monolithic group without agency or voice.

Come to the Brooklyn College Library and enjoy some Asian American Studies classics and/or books written by our Brooklyn College Asian American faculty-many of which have been recently added to the library’s collection.

Books will be available for checkout after May 26. This exhibit was curated by Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education/Art EducationXia Li from the School of Education. It is being co-sponsored by the Brooklyn College Library, the School of Education, the American Studies program, and Asian American Faculty and Staff Association, among others.
