Grace Marmor Spruch Lecture by Helen Czerski: How the Ocean Shapes Our World

October 30, 2023 @ 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm

The Physics Department is delighted to announce an annual lecture event in honor of the late Professor Grace Marmor Spruch, an alumna of the department and former Rutgers University physics professor. Spruch’s legacy donation in 2019 enabled the Spruch ’47 Physics Fund to be set up. Since 2020, the fund has helped to provide various forms of financial support to the department.

Professor Czerski is an academic physicist and oceanographer based at University College London. She is also a TV presenter and popular physics book author. She has been a regular science presenter on the BBC for 10 years, covering the physics of the natural world in BBC2 landmark documentaries and the physics of everyday life in a range of BBC4 documentaries. Her lecture will give a scientist’s exploration of the “ocean engine”—the physics behind the ocean’s systems—and why it matters. Further details and reservations for college visitors only are available here.
