LGBTQIA+ Book Club: “From the Rez to the Runway”

The LGBTQIA+ Book Club meets once a month throughout the academic semester. It provides a thoughtful and engaging environment where participants can delve into nuanced discussions, reflect on complex themes, and connect with fellow students, staff, and faculty. Our selections span various genres and topics, ensuring that each meeting presents an opportunity to broaden our understanding of LGBTQ+ experiences and narratives.

In November, we’ll read Christian Allaire’s From the Rez to the Runway. Growing up on the Nipissing First Nation reserve in northern Ontario, Allaire wanted to work in the fashion industry, a future that seemed like a remote, and unlikely, dream. Allaire writes with feeling about the struggle to find his place—and community—in the highly exclusive world of fashion.
