Waitlist Information

A waitlist gives you a chance to enroll in a class that is currently full. If a waitlist is available, you can join it in CUNYfirst. If a seat opens, you may be enrolled automatically from the waitlist.

FAQ

How do I join a waitlist?

Select “Wait List if Class is Full” when adding the class to your shopping cart. You can waitlist for only one section of the same course.

I’m enrolled in a class but prefer another one. What should I do?

Use Swap in CUNYfirst to join the waitlist without losing your current class. If a seat opens and you’re enrolled, CUNYfirst will automatically replace your current class.

I’m on the waitlist. What happens next?

Check CUNYfirst regularly. If a seat opens and you’re the next eligible student, CUNYfirst will automatically enroll you.

Will I stay on the waitlist after classes begin?

Yes. You’ll remain on the waitlist through the add/drop period. Waitlists close on the last day to add a course. Check the academic calendar for deadlines.

Note: Late registration fees may apply after the semester begins.

Will I be notified if I’m enrolled from the waitlist?

Yes. You’ll receive an email at your student email address if you’re enrolled from the waitlist.

What are my chances of getting into a waitlisted class?

Your chances depend on whether a seat becomes available and your eligibility to enroll. There’s no guarantee you’ll get into the class, so it’s a good idea to have a backup plan.

Where can I check my waitlist position?

Check My Class Schedule in CUNYfirst to see your current position on the waitlist.

How do I leave a waitlist?

In CUNYfirst, drop the waitlisted class just as you would drop a class you’re enrolled in. This will remove you from the waitlist.

Am I charged tuition while I’m on a waitlist?

No. You are not charged while you’re on the waitlist. If you’re enrolled in the class, tuition and fees will apply. Check CUNYfirst for any payment due dates.
