BC-Jean Moulin III Exchange Program

Located in the center of Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second largest university town in France, in Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain), Jean Moulin Lyon III University offers a learning and research space focused on the humanities and social sciences with programs ranging from two-year foundation degrees to Ph.Ds. With seven doctoral schools and 19 research units, the university develops interdisciplinary research linked to major social issues. Eligibility

This program is open to all CUNY students, though preference is given to Brooklyn College students.

Applicants should have:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.00
  • At least one academic year earned prior to exchange application
  • If the student intends to enroll in one or more courses in French, they must also demonstrate intermediate proficiency with one of the following: a passing grade in an intermediate-level French course at Brooklyn College, a test administered by Brooklyn College faculty, or results from an externally administered test recognized by Brooklyn College faculty. Jean Moulin University III may also test Brooklyn College students after arrival in France before course enrollment.
  • A clear academic and disciplinary record

Choosing Your Coursework

Academic offerings available for study include, but are not limited to, business administration, philosophy, languages, law, political science, literature, information and communication, history, and geography.

Courses are taught in French (DEUF program) and English (SELF program).

Housing

Finding a place to stay in Lyon can sometimes be quite difficult, so it is strongly recommend that you start looking before you leave the United States. Housing costs between 600 and 1,000 euros (approximately $680–$1,135) per month (first months are more expensive, because of agencies’ fees, deposit, etc.).

There are many different types of accommodation in Lyon and the surrounding area: CROUS university residences, private university residences, apartment rentals (via estate agents or private individuals), flat or house shares, renting a room, etc.

Exchange students have access to the Lyon III International Association that provides students with assistance in finding accommodation in the CROUS university residences, private residences, or with a host family. It serves as a useful link between students and the residences. There is a basic service fee of €20. Added costs include: €30 application fee and €350 deposit (compulsory reservation deposit that will be reimbursed at the end of your stay).

Approximate Costs per Semester

The average student should budget between 1,000 and 1,500 euros per month for accommodation and other living expenses. Keep in mind variations in personal lifestyle and spending preferences.

Visa Information

The French visa process has changed recently.  Visa appointments no longer take place at the French Consulate, but rather at VFS (Visa Facilitation Services).

There are three parts to the visa process:

  • Campus France, online application
  • France-Visas, online application
  • VFS Visa Appointment, in person with paper documents

Once you are accepted, you will get very detailed information about the complete process.

An overview of creating a VFS account and booking an appointment will be sent to you upon acceptance to the program.
