The Brooklyn College Cancer Center will mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October with a series of events focused on breast cancer education, prevention, screening, nutrition, and community engagement.

Throughout the month, the Center will partner with the Haitian Studies Institute and campus and community organizations to provide opportunities for the Brooklyn College community and the public to learn more about breast cancer and access health and wellness resources.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Kickoff Dinner

October 1, 6–7:30 p.m. (Student Center, State Lounge)

The month begins with “Beyond Awareness: Breast Cancer in the Afro-Caribbean Diaspora, From Health to Wellness, Tips, Resources & Empowerment – Good Health WINS” a Breast Cancer Awareness Month kickoff dinner exploring breast cancer experiences and health considerations within Afro-Caribbean communities. Haitian Creole interpretation will be available.

Nutrition & Breast Cancer Prevention

October 20, 12:30–2 p.m. (West Quad Building Room 408)

This event will highlight the connection between nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and breast cancer prevention, offering participants practical information to support their health and well-being.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

October 25, 9 a.m.-noon. (Coney Island Boardwalk)

Brooklyn College community members are invited to join the BC Against Cancer Team at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on the Coney Island Boardwalk. The event brings together individuals and communities to raise awareness and support efforts to prevent and fight breast cancer.

Health Fair at Haitian Creole Language & Culture Symposium

October 31, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. (Student Center, Gold Room)

The Cancer Center will conclude the month with a health fair held during the Haitian Creole Language & Culture Symposium. The health fair will feature free health resources and information, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, and HIV screenings, as well as wellness resources.

Eligible participants may also register for a no-cost mammogram.
