When you minor in secondary education, you will explore pedagogical techniques from the craft and science of teaching while you major in the field in which you plan to teach. You’ll learn how best to transmit your knowledge to students and discover techniques to engage those who may be reluctant about learning. Your teaching could ignite their ambitions, as they find themselves drawn to a particular subject. A minor in secondary education enables you to take many of the prerequisite courses for a master’s degree program in secondary education.
After graduation, you will be ready for graduate-level education programs that can qualify you for employment in the schools of New York City and to receive New York State initial teacher certification.
The program information listed here reflects the approved curriculum for the 2025–26 academic year per the Brooklyn College Bulletin. Bulletins from past academic years can be found here.
