Grants
Grants are a type of financial aid program that does not need to be paid back. Brooklyn College participates in the federal, New York State, New York City, and CUNY grant programs described below.
Federal Student Aid
Eligibility
To be considered for federal financial aid, you must meet the basic eligibility requirements for federal student aid outlined on the Federal Student Aid web portal.
Programs
The federal student financial aid grant programs available at Brooklyn College are:
- Federal Pell Grant Program
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program
- Federal TEACH Grant Program
New York State Student Aid
Eligibility
New York State financial aid programs have similar basic eligibility requirements except for those students who are eligible through the New York State DREAM Act. These programs also have additional eligibility requirements. Each program has different enrollment requirements as well. Learn more about each program by clicking on a page for a specific program.

The New York State financial aid programs available at Brooklyn College are:
- Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS)
- Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
- The Excelsior Scholarship
- Search for Education Elevation and Knowledge (SEEK), Brooklyn College’s Education Opportunity Program
New York City/CUNY Programs
Peter F. Vallone Academic Scholarship
The Peter F. Vallone Academic Scholarship rewards New York City high school graduates who have proven their ability to succeed academically while they were in high school. Students may receive $700 per year ($350 per semester). Funding is determined by the New York City Council, and the scholarship award amount is subject to change based upon an allocation provided each academic year. Once a college has reached its allocation amount, no additional recipients can be awarded.
CUNY Macaulay Honors College
Students in the Macaulay Honors College (MHC) may be eligible for additional financial aid. MHC is exclusive to undergraduate programs of study.
