The Brooklyn College Listening Project is an oral history initiative where students interview family, neighbors, friends, and strangers about their lives, experiences, and perspectives on the world.

Want to curl up with a good book? Brooklyn College is a literary powerhouse, and several writers in our community recently received accolades for their powerful works.

  • Associate Professor Helen Philips ’07 M.F.A. won a Guggenheim Fellowship for her work that includes her recent novel, The Need.
  • Adjunct Professor Sigrid Nunez won a Guggenheim Fellowship for her work that includes her recent novel, The Friend.
  • Professor Ben Lerner won the Los Angeles Times Best Fiction Prize for his novel The Topeka School.
  • Professor Corey Robin’s book The Enigma of Clarence Thomas was touted by The New York Times as “rigorous yet readable, frequently startling yet eminently persuasive.”
  • De’Shawn Charles Winslow ’11, ’13 M.A., won the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize for In West Mills.
  • Ocean Vuong ’12 won the Mark Twain American Voice Award for Literature for his novel, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous.
