From Ann Lowe to Olivier Rousteing: Black Designers Building Fashion Businesses

March 5 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

The lecture will be delivered by Elizabeth Way, associate curator of the Museum at FIT, and Ariele Elia, assistant director of the Fashion Law Institute. Way recently organized a comprehensive exhibition on Ann Lowe, America’s first Black couturier, so part of her presentation will be to discuss this exhibition and Lowe’s career. Linked to this will be a conversation regarding successful Black fashion businesses and the hurdles Black creatives face when starting a fashion business. Organized by the Art Department, Women’s and Gender Studies, and the School of Business, and co-sponsored by Africana Studies, the Women’s Center, and Black Faculty.
