The Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague is a leading modern scientific and pedagogical workplace well-known in Europe and throughout the world. It is known as the most eco-friendly university campus in Czechia, and is highly regarded for its sustainability, rich student life, friendly and vibrant atmosphere. The university has about 20,000 students (almost 30% are international students), six faculties, and one institute. CZU offers more than 170 accredited study programs at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels (in 10 Bachelor of Science, 20 Master of Science, and 26 Ph.D. programs; the language of instruction is English).

Applicants should have:

  • At least one academic year earned prior to exchange application
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00

Choosing Your Coursework

The Czech University of Life Sciences offers a wide variety of coursework in English and Czech.

Although the school specializes in life sciences such as biology, agriculture, forestry, veterinary studies, and food production, courses can be found in communications, social sciences, economics, humanities, etc.

Course offerings change every semester, so please be flexible with the courses you may want to take.

Academic Calendar

The updated calendar for each academic year is available on the Incoming Exchange Student page.

  • Spring Semester: Early February–early May (final exam session runs until the end of June)
  • Fall Semester: End of September–early January (final exam session runs from mid-January to early February)

Housing

Exchange students may dorm at the External Residence Hall WEST, approximately 35 to 40 minutes from a CZU campus, and 25 minutes from the city center by public transport.

Students may also select private housing options, including:

  • External Dormitory WEST residence hall (approximately CZK 8,850–14,490 ($380–$630) per month
  • Shared single apartments: approximately CZK 15,000–18,000 ($650–$800) per month

While the university cannot directly provide housing for students, it does offer support in finding suitable accommodation. Consult CZU’s accommodation website.

Approximate Costs per Semester

Below is an approximation of the costs each student will spend per semester while abroad in Prague. Note that expenses vary depending on lifestyle. CZU also offers a cost of living webpage.

Visa Information

To study in the Czech Republic for a semester, all U.S. citizens need a student visa and long-term resident permit. You should schedule an appointment at the consulate after receiving your acceptance from the Czech University of Life Sciences.

The Consulate of the Czech Republic in New York asks that all visa applicants schedule an appointment in advance via an email only. Request for an appointment must be sent to NewYork.Consulate@mzv.gov.cz (consular) or NewYork.Visa@mzv.gov.cz (visa).

CZU says that any applicants for a student visa and long-term resident permit for studies in the Czech Republic (more than 90 days) who received an official letter of acceptance for studies from one of the faculties of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague may be nominated by the CZU International Relations Office for fast track interviews—Student Mode (Režim student)—at the Czech Embassy in their country of origin.
