BC-Pusan National University Exchange Program

Pusan National University provides educational opportunities in almost all areas of study and supports the needs of quality higher education. Busan is the second largest city in South Korea, with a population of 3.6 million people, and is a center of marine logistics in northeast Asia with one of the world’s five super ports, which serves as gateway opening the Eurasian continent to the world. Applicants should have:

  • At least one academic year earned prior to exchange application
  • Minimum GPA of 3.00

Choosing Your Coursework

PNU offers a wide variety of coursework in English and Korean. A sample of what is offered in English is provided below:

International business, financial statistics, architecture, management science, economics, archaeology, tourism, street art, geography, linguistics, language studies, politics, climate and environmental studies, literature, and the sciences.

Course offerings change every year, so please be flexible with the courses you may want to take. To get a better understanding, check the PNU course directory.

Academic Calendar

  • Spring Semester: Beginning of March–mid-June
  • Fall Semester: Beginning of September–mid-December

Housing

PSU offers on-campus housing. Housing is found on three campuses. Your campus is determined by your major. Most majors are located at the main campus, or Jangjeon Campus (Busan), but some are at Yangsan or Miryang campuses. More information will be sent to you after program acceptance.

Dormitory assignments are based on your campus location. The dormitory fees (includes meals for the semester, 16 weeks) are approximately:

  • Twin room: $1,200–$1,450
  • Single room: $1,150–$1,600

Students who wish to arrange their own housing are responsible for finding and contracting off-campus housing on their own.

  • Single room with kitchen and bathroom: approximately $240 per month (as of March 2025)

Approximate Costs per Semester

Below is an approximation of the costs each student will spend per semester while abroad in Busan, South Korea. Note that expenses vary depending on lifestyle.

  • CUNY tuition and fees
  • Housing: $1,600 (if dorming, three meals a day included)
  • Food: $1,200
  • Personal Expenses: $2,000
  • Transportation/ Communication: $300
  • Books and Supplies: $150
  • CISI Travel Insurance: $65 per month ($260 for the semester)

More Information

Visa Information

All students are responsible for applying for an exchange student visa (D-2-6) by submitting the Certificate of Admission to the Korean Consulate. Consult the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea for information on student visas. More guidance will be provided upon acceptance to the program.

Other Information

PSU mandates that all exchange students must have insurance during their stay in South Korea. They are required to enroll in both the Korean NHIS (National Health Insurance Service) for monthly payments and to the CUNY CISI insurance.
