Want to understand how communication shapes our world—and how you can use it to make an impact? At Brooklyn College’s Department of Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders (CASD), you’ll join a community of scholars, researchers, and clinicians who explore human communication and its disorders while preparing you for a meaningful career.
The audiology program incorporates comprehensive academic and clinical training under a nationally and internationally recognized doctoral faculty.
CASD is a community of scholars, researchers, and clinicians who facilitate students’ exploration of human communication and disorders. Our goal is to train you to become a thoughtful and effective communicator who is mindful of how people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds behave, speak, and communicate.
The department offers majors and minors in professional communication as well as communication sciences and disorders (CSD; Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology). The department also administers an Interdisciplinary Communication Program that gives students the option to pursue a concentration in one of the following: visual and media studies, interpersonal and intercultural communication, and professional and organizational communication.
We combine science with humanities, link theory to practice, and provide students with knowledge and skills in evidence-based practice. In our Professional Communication program, you will receive in-depth education that is needed to be an effective communicator in such fields as finance, management, and public relations. In our CSD program, you will be taught how to recognize, evaluate, and treat monolingual and bilingual individuals with difficulties in speech, swallowing, language, and hearing.
The Brooklyn College chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association conducts professional and social events for undergraduate students in the major, including résumé-writing workshops, graduate application information sessions, and “meet and greet” with masters and doctoral students as well as holiday and graduation celebrations.
