Tammie Cumming was named the associate provost and assistant vice president for institutional effectiveness in August 2019. Cumming has provided educational research and assessment support services in higher education and at ACT, Inc. for more than 25 years. She has been an invited speaker on educational assessment and accreditation on an international level and has recently served as a U.S. delegate for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes task force. Cumming earned her Ph.D. in applied statistics and psychometrics from the University of Iowa.
Isana Leshchinskaya is the assessment manager and associate director for the Office of Educational Research and Assessment under Institutional Effectiveness at Brooklyn College, specializing in online assessment, regional, and professional accreditation, and survey research and administration.
Yurii Kurys is a student assistant in the Office of Institutional Research and Data Sciences under Institutional Effectiveness. He earned his master’s degree in engineering from a Ukrainian university and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in physics at Brooklyn College. Kurys previously worked as a teacher in Ukraine and China. He enjoys working with data and numbers and is also passionate about teaching.
Leonard Berner is a student assistant for the Office of Institutional Research and Data Sciences under Institutional Effectiveness. He is an freshman at Brooklyn College. Berner is a piano performance and engineering double major. He received the 2021 Chancellor’s Arts Endorsed Diploma as an instrumental major at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Berner has previous experience in clerical work from the Summer Youth Employment Program.
Michael Ayers is the senior director of institutional research and data science, serving under the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Ayers compiles data and performs statistical analyses to support decision-making and strategic planning at the college. This has included analysis to set baselines and determine attainable goals for important metrics. He has worked at Brooklyn College since 2002. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the State University at Albany in 2005.
Gehad Gad serves as the institutional research specialist for the Office of Institutional Research and Data Science. Gad’s tasks include data validation, the design and development of reports, and statistical analyses. Prior to her position at Brooklyn College, she worked as an academic adviser at Kingsborough Community College (CUNY) and Borough of Manhattan Community College (CUNY). She earned her B.S. in biology from Brooklyn College in 2015 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in data science at the CUNY School of Professional Studies.
Ying Zhu serves as data coordinator for the Office of Institutional Research and Data Science. Her tasks include exporting and importing data from complex data sources, cleaning data files, and maintaining historical records. She also prepares and runs analytical reports. Zhu has worked at Brooklyn College since 2008. She has an M.A. in computer resource and information systems from Webster University, and an M.S. in education from Beijing Sport University.
